Position Overview – Account Manager – Transportation – San Francisco Bay Area

As a National Instruments Account Manager (AM), you will work as a front-line professional of a respected industry brand with highly differentiated products and extensive service and support capabilities. In this role, you will grow your business acumen and sales skills while serving two strategic Transportation accounts headquartered in the SF Bay Area. You will establish NI as a key consultative partner for your customers and influence investment decisions resulting in increased share of wallet.

Quick Summary

NI Account Managers focus their time and efforts:

  • Planning and executing account development initiatives to generate demand in identified areas of greatest opportunity
  • Consulting with engineers, managers, and directors to understand and address their technical and business requirements with the best NI products and services that meet their needs
  • Managing and closing sales opportunities through collaborations with partners and internal NI resources
  • Networking and prospecting within assigned accounts to engage with new groups, create and sustain valued relationships with customer leadership, and identify new qualified sales opportunities

Key Performance Objectives

  • Achieve annual quota and quarterly targets by winning opportunities at two named accounts.
  • Generate demand for NI products through effective business development strategy and account planning. Within the first 30 days, assess the current state of business. Within 60 days, establish strategy and renewed account plans and review with NI sales management. Within 90 days, set customer-validated objectives and build critical action plans.
  • Effectively lead NI and partner resources to close sales. Within the first 30 days, identify and connect with all relevant stakeholders. Establish a system for keeping internal and partner stakeholders informed and involved. Conduct periodic account plan reviews with sales management and other stakeholders. Keep SFDC documentation current with key activities and opportunities to enable effective internal collaboration and provide input to forecasting.
  • Adapt and lead customer presentations and product demonstrations. Be prepared to lead effective sales presentations and product demonstrations, adapted from existing enablement content or created in collaboration with Product Marketing and Transportation Business Unit Systems Engineering.
  • Learn NI offering and relevant value proposition. Within 90 days learn core NI services/solutions and be able to effectively present these solutions using cost-benefit, ROI, and solution trade-off techniques. The knowledge learned will include: NI’s overall points of differentiation and value in key applications, business case modeling tools, high level sales enablement content, key technical white paper content, case studies, the NI website, and success stories to facilitate the sales process.
  • Demonstrate account knowledge and ability to impact revenue by utilizing sales tracking systems and providing accurate forecasts. Within six months, develop an accurate 12 to 24-month sales forecast. Effectively use SFDC daily to provide organizational insight regarding active opportunities in all stages of the sales cycle.

Basic Requirements

  • Technical degree with major in Electrical, Computer, Mechanical Engineering, or Computer Science, or similar
  • 5 years of successful sales experience (meeting/exceeding quota) in a technical environment
  • Experience with electric vehicle start-up companies
  • Experience with SFDC
  • Experience with Energy / Electric Industry applications including electric power storage, battery cell technology, data acquisition systems, and related test and measurement instrumentation
  • Experience as a hardware/software engineer providing support to customers facing challenging Communications and Information Technology challenges, specifically in the Transportation Industry
  • Experience providing critical manufacturing support for customers building materials and products for the Transportation industry
  • Technical experience designing test systems, developing embedded software, designing the user interface, and deploying on microcontrollers and/or FPGAs
  • Experience selling complex multi-million dollar hardware and software systems with integrated services and/or consulting engagements
  • Experience leading teams executing complex consulting and hardware/software service deliverables – from first engagement through to program delivery
  • Experience influencing Business Units to customize solution offerings to meet customer requirements (specifically regarding Transportation-related HIL solutions)
